Shalimar is the first oriental in the history of perfumery. The Eau de Parfum Shalimar is a mythical fragrance with accents of bergamot, iris and vanilla; an intense, slightly sulphurous, ever-incandescent sillage that embodies a skin-deep sensuality, a hint of the forbidden. Inspired by the story of a passionate love between an emperor and an Indian princess, Shalimar – which means "Temple of Love" in Sanskrit – forever symbolises the essence of desire, the promise of an eternal love. In 1925, the Shalimar bottle, designed by Raymond Guerlain, won first prize at the Decorative Arts Exhibition in Paris. Its curves are inspired by the basins of the famous Shalimar gardens. The fan-shaped stopper, with its sapphire-like transparency, recalls its eternal water jets.

4 centuries ago, in India, Emperor Shah Jahan fell desperately in love with Princess Mumtaz Mahal. He created for her the magnificent gardens of Shalimar, then dedicated the Taj Mahal to her, one of the seven new wonders of the world. This incredible story fired the imagination of Jacques Guerlain, who in 1925 created Shalimar, the first oriental perfume in History.
Jacques Guerlain dared to use a brand-new gourmand molecule – ethylvanillin – combined with the Jicky accord. Captivated by this deliciously sensual creation that he reworked day and night, he already knew he was embarking on a "small revolution": that of the first pure oriental.
