The meaning of Wazamba

Wazamba is a perfume with a rather strange name… Indeed, while some fragrances reveal a hint of their scent through their name, this one does not. But then, what could this enigmatic word be hiding? Well, rest assured, the press kit from Parfum d'Empire tells us more on the subject. The brand explains that Wazamba is a «sistrum (musical instrument) used in the rituals of West Africa». The house even adds that it is a tool with «heavy, full and deep sounds.» Thus, Wazamba goes beyond a simple olfactory interpretation. In reality, it pays homage to the original meaning of the word perfume. Moreover, this word comes from the Latin «per-fumare», which literally means «through smoke». It was then a means of communicating with the gods and perfume thus held a sacred meaning. This is also precisely what Wazamba is about. It is presented as a blend of resins and precious woods burned in homage to the gods. The skin then seems bathed in an almost mystical atmosphere, as if an offering were being made directly to it. No one could say whether it is an African, Arab, Buddhist or Indian temple. Nevertheless, the emotion is clearly palpable.

When Parfum d'Empire embraces spirituality

Wazamba is like the musical instrument that inspires it. It releases a striking sound and thus seems ideally conceived to accompany African initiatory ceremonies. Its notes are composed mainly of myrrh, opoponax and incense. This is where it draws its multiple resinous facets. Nevertheless, the whole is supported by the invigorating impulse of aldehydes. What is more, this ingredient is also charged with meaning. Indeed, since Antiquity, this resin has been offered to the gods who, according to legends, feed on its scent. Likewise, Wazamba contains a strong dose of cypress, a tree dear to the Arabs who consider it a source of inner alchemy. This then reveals its vegetal and earthy facets. Sandalwood, for its part, envelops the whole with its richness. It thus provides a sense of calm conducive to meditation. Finally, the whole is sublimated with fruity notes. Apple then meets the warmth of fir balsam absolute for a most indulgent result.

Wazamba - A dense and deep fragrance

Wazamba reveals its mysteries from the very first powerful notes of incense, simultaneously fleeting, zesty and aromatic. Driven by aldehydes, the incense opens a dazzling door, the promise of an intense journey towards our secret inner spaces... Incense, the cornerstone of this creation, evolves with the fragrance to become ever deeper. A noble raw material of which Virgil says the finest comes from happy Arabia, the land of Sheba, and an emblematic ingredient of the offerings made to the gods to earn their favour: Wazamba takes its name from an eponymous musical instrument, a sistrum used in the rituals of West Africa. Just as the heavy, full and deep sounds of this percussion accompany African initiation ceremonies, Wazamba resonates with the deep and intoxicating notes of myrrh, opoponax and incense, which also develop resinous facets.
