Wonderlust, Michael Kors' New Flight of Sweetness

Michael Kors generated a great deal of buzz this year at New York Fashion Week. There, he unveiled his spring-summer 2016 collection in a very understated style, often tinged with black but paired with numerous accessories such as fabric flowers. Nevertheless, all of today's fashion houses know it: an outfit, however perfect, would be nothing without a sublime fragrance. That is why Michael Kors has just introduced his brand-new fragrance called Wonderlust. It presents itself as a summery juice, both floral and fruity.

The Olfactory Pyramid of the New Michael Kors

Wonderlust is a juice that immediately displays its creamy indulgence. Its top notes are composed of almond milk. This ingredient is recreated using several raw materials such as coumarin, heliotrope and benzyl alcohol. This blend delivers fruity, tender and powdery notes. Wonderlust then quickly evolves towards a more floral heart. This contains Dianthus, a variety of carnation known for its spicy and rosy facets, close to those of clove. Heliotrope, for its part, lends the composition a smooth, balsamic and vanilla character. Finally, Wonderlust concludes with a base predominantly made up of benzoin, a resin derived from a shrub growing in Laos or Vietnam. This delivers warmer scents and even gives the whole a slight hint of caramel or cocoa butter. Thus, Wonderlust becomes a gourmand fragrance that one rushes to discover with appetite. As for the bottle, it is housed in a cylindrical case resting on a thick glass base. It features a transparency lightly tinted with pink, making it a particularly feminine container. Furthermore, the luxury of Michael Kors is further enhanced by its cap, tinted in a matte gold colour for a thoroughly contemporary effect.

Wonderlust, a Creation by Two Perfumers

In order to create this new essence, Michael Kors called upon two perfumers. Indeed, Wonderlust is the work of Honorine Blanc and Aurélien Guichard. Honorine Blanc is a creator originally from Lebanon who very quickly turned towards the olfactory world by studying at the perfumery school in Versailles. She then moved to New York to work with perfumer Sofia Grojsman at IFF. Since 2005, she has been working for the Firmenich group and has in that capacity signed a good number of perfumed masterpieces such as Loverdose by Diesel or Opium Noir by Yves Saint-Laurent. Likewise, this composition is not her first collaboration with Michael Kors, as she is responsible for the creation of Sporty Citrus in 2013. Aurélien Guichard, for his part, is one of the most prolific perfumers of his generation. Born to a perfumer father, he has already signed dozens of legendary juices such as L'Eau de Narciso Rodriguez, Gucci by Gucci or Le Mâle Terrible by Jean-Paul Gaultier. In other words, all the expertise of these two creative geniuses can be found within the new fragrance Wonderlust. As you will have gathered, once again Michael Kors signs with this essence a truly extraordinary work.
