White Patchouli, the sensual power of Tom Ford

Patchouli is one of the most important raw materials in perfumery. Indeed, it has been used for a very long time to enhance fragrances. It evokes a powerful sensuality and a natural beauty. It made its appearance in Western perfumery in 1834, in England. At the time, cashmere shawls were being shipped to Europe, perfumed with patchouli to protect them from insect damage, particularly moths. Women quickly associated this scent with these luxurious fabrics. Patchouli thus became akin to a precious object. It seems imbued with a certain magic and is associated with the mysteries of the Orient. It is an invitation to travel and plunges us into a world reminiscent of One Thousand and One Nights. It was even adapted into poetry by Baudelaire, earning a sulphurous reputation from that day on. Moreover, patchouli deeply marked the 1970s and became the emblematic scent of the hippie movement. And so it is a new version of this extraordinary ingredient that Tom Ford presents to us this time. White Patchouli seems to emanate from another era while being particularly contemporary. It stands halfway between tradition and modernity, as if suspended in time. It embodies, of course, the bohemian spirit of the 1970s. Yet it is more radiant and luminous than ever.

The daring scent of White Patchouli

Two talented perfumers joined forces to create the essence of White Patchouli. This fragrance is signed by Pierre Négrin and Rodrigo Flores-Roux. It is a carefully crafted chypre-floral composition built around a noble and pure patchouli. Of course, Tom Ford made sure to select the most noble variety available. The patchouli reveals multiple facets here. It proves alternately woody, fresh, aromatic or luminous. It is accompanied by a wealth of flowers such as peony, rose and jasmine. The overall result is very elegant and feminine. Likewise, the opening is refreshed by a hint of bergamot. Coriander, for its part, enlivens the whole with its impertinence. Finally, White Patchouli closes with woodier, more intense wafts of incense and ambrette seeds. The whole is both tenacious and wonderfully nuanced.

The Eau de Parfum White Patchouli by Tom Ford

Tom Ford reinvents patchouli, one of the most characteristic and classic ingredients in traditional perfumery.
Once again he draws inspiration from the heritage and tradition of perfumery, breathing modernity and sophistication into it to give the fragrance a new image. He loves to play with the simultaneously light and dark duality associated with this ingredient, always synonymous with pure beauty, opulence and eroticism. Its dark and light ambiguity is evocative, provocative and seductive. The bohemian spirit associated with patchouli lends the fragrance a mysterious quality.

Top notes: Sparkling and energetic notes of bergamot, peony and coriander.
Heart notes: The decidedly modern heart brings lightness and softness with the absolute of May rose, night jasmine and ambrette seeds.
Base notes: The fragrance is built around a very pure variety of patchouli enriched by a blend of blonde wood and incense.
