Magie Noire, Lancôme's spellbinding fragrance
Lancôme plays the sorcerer's apprentice
The story of the perfume Magie Noire takes us back to the heart of the 1950s. Indeed, although this fragrance came to life in 1978, it follows on from the perfume Magie, one of the greatest successes of the Lancôme brand. Yet the 1970s marked a real turning point for perfumery. Essences became richer and more heady. As a result, Lancôme found itself compelled to reinvent itself to keep up with the fashions of the time. In this context, the house decided to create the darker equivalent of Magie, renaming it for the occasion Magie Noire. Its evocative esoteric name places these two essences in total opposition. The white and wise magic, synonymous with purity, gives way to a perfume of power, mystery and unease. It seems perfectly conceived for a woman of the night with a particularly sensual allure. Magie Noire is an enchanting juice, as warm as it is captivating. It reveals almost magical vibrations, making Magie Noire a perfume that is impossible to resist.
The contrasting scent of Magie Noire
And when it comes to Magie, expect the unexpected. Magie Noire is a juice filled with multiple and ever more surprising facets. It was crafted thanks to the creativity of three talented perfumers: Jean-Charles Niel, Gérard Goupy and Yves Tanguy. All three developed a scent that is both green and oriental, a combination that is at the very least surprising! The oriental base of Magie Noire delivers the sensuality of musk, the smoothness of sandalwood, the woody facet of cedar, the exoticism of vanilla, the depth of oakmoss, the tenacity of amber, the spicy tonality of incense and the enchantment of patchouli. This is preceded, however, by a more vegetal base emanating from blackcurrant bud and galbanum. Bulgarian rose, for its part, enriches this composition with its elegance. Jasmine and narcissus further enhance its opulence and richness. Finally, ylang-ylang adds a more exotic touch. Upon its release, Magie Noire was housed in a bottle designed by Pierre Dinand, shaped like a crumpled still of waves swept by flames. In short, it was a vessel worthy of the bewitching power of the perfume it contained. However, this was replaced in 2011 by a more massive and geometric bottle, devoid of all eccentricity, itself designed in the early 1960s by artist Georges Delhomme.
L'Eau de Toilette Magie Noire by Lancôme
A strange power.
The most oriental of all orientals, the most bewitching of all potions. MAGIE NOIRE by Lancôme is the Orient within reach, with its mysteries and its charms, casting a spell over the senses.
Women surrender to it as to the most troubling of passions, and men cannot resist their strange power.
Pure oriental passion: the Bulgarian Rose that first soars and becomes intoxicated with the tears of the Blackcurrant Bud.
Its heart is an irresistible potion uniting Myrrh and the Incense of goddesses with the sensuality of Ylang Ylang and the opulence of Jasmine.
Its heady and troubling base becomes velvet on the skin, blending the warmth of Amber with the soft sweetness of Patchouli.
