As a tribute to the heroine of the novel La Bataille, which enjoyed great success at the time, Jacques Guerlain named his creation Mitsouko. A beautiful married Japanese woman, Mitsouko secretly loves a British officer. In 1905, the Russo-Japanese War breaks out. Mastering her feelings with nobility, Mitsouko waits with dignity for the outcome of the battle. The incredible idea of Jacques Guerlain, which gives this perfume all its modernity, was to dare the combination of a chypre with a note as fruity as peach. Designed by George Chevalier, its mythical "inverted heart" bottle is highlighted by graceful scrolls characteristic of Art Nouveau. A true technical feat, its avant-garde stopper in the shape of a hollow heart evokes the delicate romanticism of this monument of perfumery.
