Azalée, the sumptuous flower of René Lalique

The abstract nature of the maison Lalique

René Lalique was born in 1860 in a small village in the Marne. He spent his childhood between Paris and this corner of lush nature that he considered, from a very early age, a little paradise. Moreover, this environment would mark his life forever and very often inspire his work, whether jewellery or glassware. One particularly memorable piece is the superb flacon with the «Lys Noir» motif, created in 1924. This plant was depicted in a more abstract guise. It was a stylised, glorified and reinvented flower, evoking the lotus blossoms found on Egyptian frescoes. Although René Lalique is no longer with us today, the brand strives to preserve his legacy and perpetuate the ancestral tradition of this prestigious house. This is why the fragrance Azalée, created in 2014, drew inspiration from those abstract corollas of the past. Furthermore, Lalique sees in l'Azalée a symbol of joy and love. As its name evokes lightness and flight, it is a luminous and airy perfume. It can be compared in particular to a sun-drenched garden on a beautiful spring day.

The chypré and fruity tones of l'Azalée

This olfactory creation is the work of perfumer Michel Almairac. He had the idea of translating the blazing flowers of l'Azalée, ranging from red to pink. Thus, Azalée opens with a freshness of bergamot combined with the sunny juiciness of peach. The whole is also enhanced by fruitier and more floral accents of freesia. The heart of Azalée then transforms into a true concentrate of femininity. It is predominantly composed of rose. Nevertheless, this queen of flowers is paired with the heady aspect of gardenia as well as the rich luminosity of jasmine sambac. The whole is reworked in a more modern and exuberant manner. It is as if one were gazing upon an azalea bush in full bloom. The composition rests on deeper foundations. Its sillage is steeped in moss and patchouli. Sandalwood, meanwhile, lends the whole a creamier quality. Finally, amber displays all of its sensuality. Likewise, the pink and red of l'Azalée are reflected in its flacon. The latter features gently curved sides and contrasts the colour of its gradient glass with a very contemporary silvery metal.
