It was in 1939, as war broke out in Europe, that Ernest Daltroff, of Jewish origin, was forced into exile and chose the United States. Catching sight of the Statue of Liberty upon his arrival at the port of New York, he made himself a promise to pay tribute to this nation.

Patrick Alès rediscovered the founder's memoirs in the late 1990s. In 2000, he honoured this vow by creating Lady Caron for the opening of the boutique on Madison Avenue in New York.
