Created in 1853 by Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain, L'Eau de Cologne Impériale is the very first Eau de Cologne by Guerlain. Composed especially for Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III, it earned its creator the title of "Perfumer by Appointment to His Majesty". The Empress kept it exclusively for a few years before giving her consent to its commercialisation. Its label bears the symbol of the Empire, displaying the coat of arms chosen by Napoleon: the eagle, the imperial crown and the sceptre. Its bottle, adorned with 69 bees as symbols of the Empire, is characteristic of the "Colognes" family by Guerlain. It can be personalised to order, hand-decorated in fine gold and signed with initials.
