My emotion is fluid. Like a wax that pours into a mold, it firms up what seduces me, as here, this heart of gingerbread.
Baptême du Feu, the new scented enigma by Serge Lutens
Serge Lutens is an ever-enigmatic creator. That is why each of his perfumes comes with a mysterious text that speaks only to him. This time, on the occasion of the release of the perfume Baptême du Feu, he wrote: « My emotion is fluid. Like a wax that pours into a mold, it firms up what seduces me, as here, this heart of gingerbread. » In reality, behind this abstract quote hides a smell typical of childhood, and more particularly that of the fairground. Baptême du Feu plunges us into a typically lutensian world, far removed from the house's latest uneventful releases.
The enigmatic universe of Baptême du Feu
Baptême du Feu is a strange perfume. Its universe is particularly mysterious, even somewhat anxiety-inducing. Indeed, Serge Lutens draws us into a world typical of childhood, that of a fairground. Nevertheless, in our increasingly violent times, everyone knows that places filled with crowds can very quickly become true battlefields. This is exactly what the perfume Baptême du Feu is about. It combines the innocence of gingerbread, the funfair, games and shooting galleries with the scent of dust and gunshots. Baptême du Feu is a narrative fragrance that reveals itself under multiple facets. It is as if Serge Lutens uses it to highlight the apprehension of the world. Baptême du Feu is a deep juice with an unusual atmosphere. As usual, Serge Lutens seems to want to leave no one indifferent.
The new unisex fragrance by Serge Lutens
Baptême du Feu is a fragrance intended for both men and women. It was developed in collaboration with the talented perfumer Christopher Sheldrake. This creative union is not a first for the two men. Indeed, it began in the 80s with the creation of Féminité du Bois. This time, Baptême du Feu highlights the spicy and indulgent scent of gingerbread. This ingredient sits at the heart of the composition. It is further enhanced by a touch of more aphrodisiac ginger. Mandarin, for its part, brings more vivacity and a tangy facet to this fragrance. Osmanthus then adds a more autumnal and woody touch to the whole. Likewise, powdery notes make elegant scents float over everything. Finally, Baptême du Feu concludes with greater sensuality. This feeling is brought by the presence of castoreum, a substance of animal origin with a scent close to that of leather. Despite its dark facet, Baptême du Feu is a fragrance that remains particularly poetic and fits wonderfully into the universe of Serge Lutens. It is contained in a blood-red bottle with sharp and clear edges. The whole is also complemented by a black label, and all its advertising is based on a shooting target. A little more patience — everything will be available very soon, from 1 July 2016, at the heart of the Serge Lutens boutique in the Palais-Royal in Paris.
