The Flacon Collection Cristal Bacchantes, a new masterpiece by Lalique

Before becoming a perfumer, Lalique is first and foremost a great glassware house whose history spans more than a century. Among its celebrated creations, the Vase des Bacchantes holds a place of honour. This masterpiece first appeared in 1927, crafted in glass initially before being reinterpreted in crystal from 1947 onwards. And now, it seems that this icon has been given a new life as a perfume bottle. Lalique will release, from the beginning of 2017, a floral and oriental fragrance for women housed in an extraordinarily beautiful bottle, in a limited edition destined for collectors.

The celebrated Flacons Collection Cristal by Lalique

It is a tradition within the house of Lalique: every year, the brand releases a prestigious crystal bottle. This tradition was initiated by Marie-Claude Lalique in 1994, with the aim of celebrating year after year the anniversary of Lalique's first women's fragrance. Each of these prestigious bottles is signed and numbered. The Flacon Collection Cristal Bacchantes thus already promises to delight collectors. For these limited editions, Lalique elevates the quality of bottle design to its absolute peak. The Flacon Collection Cristal Bacchantes is the result of boundless creativity combined with unparalleled craftsmanship, drawing direct inspiration from the work of René Lalique himself. It is a figurative vessel, crafted by the Maîtres Verriers of the Cristallerie Lalique located in Wingen-Sur-Moder, in Alsace. The Flacon Collection Cristal Bacchantes is conceived with an unmatched attention to finish. Every detail is sculpted within it, and the result is absolutely breathtaking. In total, 1,500 examples will be sold worldwide from 2017 onwards. However, this rarity comes at a price, and you will need to budget €1,200 to acquire this precious bottle. The entire piece is heavily inspired by the representation of the female form and by the maenads of Greek mythology. The young priestesses of Bacchus form a round dance of nude figures in bas-relief. They dance and celebrate their god of wine and excess. The result is disturbingly sensual.

The oriental and floral character of the new Lalique

Yet beyond the bottle itself, this essence also holds an exceptional fragrance. It was created by perfumer Sophia Grosjman. Vice-president of IFF, she has already collaborated with the greatest creative houses, including Yves Saint-Laurent, Lancôme, Kenzo, and Estée Lauder. Her career has also been marked by numerous awards. In this instance, the creator is particularly celebrated for her rose-based fragrances. And that is precisely what we find here. The Flacon Collection Cristal Bacchantes opens with a romantic and floral scent. It combines the nobility of iris, the romance of rose, and the opulence of jasmine. The whole is nonetheless enhanced by clove, a sign of all the impertinence of the Lalique woman. The heart of this fragrance, meanwhile, takes on a fruitier character, releasing notes of blackberry, pear, and blackcurrant. Finally, it all concludes with a richer, silkier base of sandalwood, vanilla, and musk.
