The house of Courrèges was very famous in the 1960s and 70s, and owes much of its renown to the invention of the miniskirt. For a very long time, Courrèges was associated with the image of a liberated femininity. An iconic figure of emancipation, the brand has fallen somewhat out of fashion today, yet still commands admiration for its highly elegant and timeless fragrances. This time, in 2019, Courrèges chose to focus on masculinity. The brand sweeps us away in a whirlwind of freshness coming straight from the sea. A closer look at its new Courrèges fragrance: Wild Ocean.
Wild Ocean, an olfactory stroll at the heart of the waves
As the name of this fragrance suggests, it is a maritime concentrate, as if the entire power of the sea were suddenly contained within a glass bottle. It must be said that Courrèges has always had a very special attachment to the maritime world. Courrèges had already made waves in 2016 by creating a luxurious yacht with a very minimalist design. The name of this prestigious vessel? White Ocean… We are not far removed from the world of this new essence. So, what does this new fragrance smell like? Wild Ocean is an aromatic and aquatic juice. Its connection to the marine world is undeniable and is apparent from its top notes. Indeed, this juice opens with a sea water accord, both refreshing and lightly salty. Then, as if to transport us to a paradise island, Wild Ocean blossoms around a sandy heart. The image is beautiful. It carries us to a white sand beach, whose sun-warmed grains are bathed in the coolness of the water. Its base then becomes more complex. Composed of ambroxan, it exudes an animalic, saline, woody and musky breath reminiscent of ambergris, a secretion of the sperm whale released into the heart of the ocean, which acquires its definitive scent through the waves and oceanic movements.
Courrèges opts for a bottle with universal appeal
While Courrèges clearly played the oceanic card in its formula, the brand also chose to express this universe on an aesthetic level. Naturally, the bottle is blue in colour. The idea, of course, is to evoke the colour of water. Furthermore, blue is generally very popular among perfumers as it has a very universal appeal and is appreciated in every corner of the globe. The overall design is both minimalist and abstract, featuring gentle undulations on its front face. The Wild Ocean bottle takes the form of a thick glass cube resting on a solid base. The square shape chosen by Courrèges is equally intended to speak to all men, regardless of their differences. The name of this new fragrance is inscribed on one of its sides in white and silver, in capital letters.

Avec Courrèges Wild Ocean, la maison française nous emmène au bord de l'océan sans bouger de notre salle de bain. Lancé en 2019, ce parfum masculin aromatique aquatique traduit l'énergie des vagues avec une simplicité déconcertante : eau de mer, sable et ambroxan. Trois notes seulement pour capturer toute la force du large. C'est exactement ce qui fait son charme — pas de fioritures, juste l'essentiel d'un moment face à l'immensité bleue. En boutique, on le présente souvent aux clients qui cherchent du moderne sans tomber dans le compliqué.
Une Création Minimaliste aux Accents Modernes
Chez Courrèges, on n'a jamais eu peur de l'épure — Wild Ocean en est la preuve parfaite. Cette eau de toilette joue la carte de la simplicité assumée avec un parti pris audacieux : reproduire la sensation océanique sans passer par les sempiternes agrumes ou aromates marins. L'eau de mer en ouverture donne le ton — c'est iodé, c'est vivifiant, ça pique un peu les narines comme une vraie embrun. Pas de bergamote ou de citron pour adoucir le propos, on attaque direct dans le vif du sujet. Cette approche frontale surprend d'abord, puis séduit par son évidence.
Le centre de sable apporte cette texture poudrée qui évoque les dunes chauffées par le soleil. On est loin du sable de laboratoire — ici, c'est du concret, du tactile, du vécu. L'ambroxan en fond vient réchauffer l'ensemble sans l'alourdir, donnant cette sensation de peau bronzée qui garde la mémoire du sel. La tenue reste honorable pour une eau de toilette de cette facture — comptez quatre à cinq heures de présence sur la peau. C'est suffisant pour accompagner une journée d'été ou une soirée décontractée entre amis.
Ce qui frappe avec Wild Ocean, c'est son côté instantané. Pas besoin de vingt minutes pour comprendre où il va — dès la première pulvérisation, on sait qu'on a affaire à un parfum qui assume son inspiration marine jusqu'au bout. Pour les amateurs de compositions complexes, ça peut dérouter. Pour ceux qui cherchent l'efficacité moderne, c'est exactement ce qu'il faut. En douze ans de conseil, j'ai appris qu'il y a parfois plus de talent à faire simple et juste qu'à faire compliqué et convenu.
