A couture house that became a perfumery legend

The house was founded in Paris in 1932 by Robert Ricci, who created it for his mother, the dressmaker Maria Nielli — known as Nina Ricci. At a time that celebrated boyish silhouettes, her elegant and resolutely feminine creations met with great success. In 1946, Robert Ricci opened a fragrance department and launched Cœur Joie, the house's first scent, already presented in a flacon designed by Lalique — the beginning of an enduring collaboration between the art of the crystal-maker and that of the perfumer.

L'Air du Temps, the emblematic fragrance

Two years later, in 1948, L'Air du Temps was born, composed by perfumer Francis Fabron. In a France rebuilding itself after the war, Robert Ricci wanted a light, luminous fragrance, the antithesis of the heady scents of the era. Its crystal flacon crowned with two entwined doves, sculpted by Marc Lalique, became a universal symbol of peace and love. A powdery floral of timeless grace, L'Air du Temps remains one of the most significant fragrances of the twentieth century — and the heritage centrepiece of the house.
